About Yousef

To really tell Yousef’s story, it is important to understand that Yousef was never supposed to be politician.

Growing up as the son of a Jordanian immigrant in the shadow of September 11, 2001, Yousef quickly understood that politicians that look like him were virtually nonexistent. But his desire to serve and build bridges never wavered and he turned his attention to focusing on those same vulnerable communities. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS in Economics before earning his Master of Public Policy degree both from Oregon State University. He has spent over 18 years working at the federal and state level of government first with the federal prison population and then with the juvenile state court system. Yousef was content working as a reformer from within the system.

But in 2015, his brother was killed in a traffic incident and everything changed. He realized that we needed to make change at the local level. We must protect our pedestrians, dog-walkers, and youth by dedicating trails to public places such as the library, school, or playgrounds and parks. We need policies that focus on multi-generational housing affordability. And we must center all our policies on the people that elect us to serve. That is my promise to the community.
